Description

The Duckery is a folly that has been converted into two dwellings, dating from around 1790 with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed and squared Doulting rubble, featuring dressed quoins and engaged corner shafts with concave caps. The building has moulded strings at the floor levels and tiled helm roofs behind three pointed arch gables, which have moulded copings and crocketed finials. Each gable includes a quatrefoil, with the outer two being blank, while the central gable displays two equilateral crosses in relief. The structure is designed in a Gothic style, with a layout of 1:2:1 bays, where the outer pair is set forward. The central bay is two-storeys high, while the outer wings are one storey. There are lancet windows in moulded stone surrounds and a triple light opening at the centre of the first floor. A central pointed arch door opening, also in a similarly moulded surround, features a half-glazed door with traceried decoration. The window opening in the right bay has been altered to form a doorway with a 20th-century half-glazed door. There is a later addition to the right of one bay, which includes a casement on the ground floor and a wooden lancet in a half dormer on the first floor. The Duckery is attached to the Park House estate.
