Description
This is an 18th-century cottage located south of the Women's Institute in Mells. The cottage is built of Doulting rubble with a thatched roof and brick stacks at each end, the western stack having been lowered. The facade is picturesque and symmetrical. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with two bays, the upper bays gabled. It features three-light wooden casements with ovolo moulding, dating to the 20th century. A central plank door is sheltered by a 20th-century thatched hood. A modern extension has been added to the rear.
Inside, the roof structure is a modern replacement. The room on the right-hand side contains an open fireplace with an oak bessumer. The original ground floor rooms retain chamfered joists to the ceiling.
The cottage is a good example of a small 18th-century building and retains much of its original character and fabric, including original internal features.
