Description
The railings and gates to the churchyard of the Church of St James, likely from the early 19th century, are located on the north side of St James Street. The churchyard wall extends from the west tower and features iron railings with a spear motif on the uprights, divided by sections that have an urn motif. These railings are supported by a low red brick wall with plain pilaster buttresses. The main gate leading to the south porch is notable for its elaborate cast iron cresting, which forms an ogee shape with intersecting tracery and trefoils. The double gates include circles with scrollwork and an urn motif on top. There is another similar gate towards the east end of the church, also featuring ogee cresting. The Church of St James and its railings and gates together form a cohesive group.
