Description

This is a group of three buildings on Trinity Street, dating from around 1680, and restored in 1980-81. The buildings are constructed of rubble and have pantile roofs. There were originally three gables, possibly intended to be continuous across No. 1, though this has altered over time. The gable facing Selwood Road has a decorative coping. The buildings are two storeys high with attics, and feature five windows in total. These windows are a mix of 2-light and 3-light mullioned windows with drips, alongside 19th-century sash and casement windows with mixed glazing bars. Additional windows are visible on the Selwood Road return. The front includes three plain doors and a blocked 19th-century carriage arch.

At the time of a previous survey, No. 1 (formerly the King’s Head Inn) contained a large, ground-floor moulded Tudor arch fireplace with a herringbone fireback. There were also traces of a date stone arrangement similar to that found at No. 11 Bath Street. No. 2 features a staircase with moulded risers. The ground floor contains a blocked large fireplace with a bread oven within a cupboard, alongside a display cupboard next to the staircase. The first floor has an early 18th-century fireplace with a vernacular Baroque shaped lintel. In No. 3, a newel stair is located to the right of the fireplace. Two gables are also present at the rear.
