Description

These are a pair of cottages on the north-west side of Naish’s Street, dating from leases granted in 1705-06. They are two and a half storeys in height, with a pantile roof. Each cottage originally had one window, and the gables to the attic were altered in the 1980s using modern ashlar. The windows are casements; No. 29 has a three-light casement window, while No. 30 has two-light casements. Both cottages have plain doorways. Gabled extensions project from the rear – No. 30 includes a later catslide lean-to with a two-light stone mullion window. A mid-19th century brick wing is located at the rear of No. 29. The interior features chamfered ceiling beams and winder stairs positioned against a chimney stack. The cottages were originally built for Jeffrey Coombes, a husbandman.
