Description
The former gatehouse to a farmyard, now a barn, dates from around 1750. It is constructed from coursed and squared Doulting rubble and features a stone eaves course and a hipped double Roman tile roof. The building has a classically styled, two-storey facade with three bays, where the central bay projects slightly and is topped with a triangular pediment. Below this is a wide gateway with a semi-circular arch head, triple keystone, and impost band, which is fitted with 20th-century plank doors. The flanking bays contain window openings with plain stone surrounds; however, the first-floor window on the left side has been mutilated and also has a 20th-century plank door inserted. Each side of the returns has three blocked openings on the upper floor. There is a one-storey outshut with a pent roof on the left side. This gatehouse was once part of a model farm associated with Marston Hall.
