Description
Wilton House is a substantial brick house dated 1705, located in its own grounds to the west of Vivary Park. The house is colourwashed and features an entrance front that is two storeys high, rising to three storeys in the centre, with swept parapets. It has a slate roof and a sundial at the first-floor level on the rear. The front has seven sash windows with glazing bars. The doorcase is adorned with Corinthian columns that support an entablature with a parapet containing a shield. The doorway is round-headed with imposts. There is a two-storey garden wing that has been much altered, and a large projecting modern bay on the garden side. Wilton House, along with an ornamental column and Nos 1 to 14 (consecutive) Upper High Street, the listed buildings in Vivary Park and Mount Street, the School, Unitarian Chapel, the Lawn, and Mary Street House in Mary Street, form a group.
