Description
Shuttern House is a building likely dating from the mid-19th century, although it retains an older structure inside. It has been much altered and is two storeys high, set at an angle to the road. The exterior features pebble dash and a tiled roof with twin dormers on the east side and ridge cresting. Most of the windows are modern casements. The house is said to have a good 17th or 18th century staircase, roof timbers, and Jacobean ceiling mouldings. It is included for its group value with other listed buildings in the area. The group includes Nos 1 to 14 Upper High Street, the listed buildings in Vivary Park and Mount Street, as well as the School, Unitarian Chapel, The Lawn, Mary Street House, Wilton House, and an ornamental column in Hammets Walk.
