Description

The Quantock monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 5 metres south-west of the porch of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of Ham stone. The tomb features a moulded plinth with one plain panel on each end and two on each side, flanked by fluted pilasters capped with Ionic capitals. There is no frieze, and the hipped top has deep moulded coving with rounded leading edges. This monument commemorates James Quantock, who died in 1716.
