Description
Dungannon Buildings, located on the south-east side of Market Place, dates from around 1830. This building is a single architectural composition made of ashlar with concealed slate and pantile roofs. It stands two storeys high, with No. 18 featuring an attic, and houses shops on the ground floor. The upper floors are mildly ornate, showcasing overall cornices supported by brackets, parapets with moulded coping, and pierced detailing above the windows. The facade consists of four bays, three of which are emphasized by slightly projecting forward, with the ends featuring grouped round-headed windows on the first floor and a raised parapet that includes a central circular opening. The ground floor has modern shop fronts, with those of Nos 17, 18, and 20 flanked by original Ionic pilasters and featuring arched doorways. The buildings are named Dungannon Buildings after the eldest son of the Earls of Cork and Orrery.
