Description
The Old Ground is a 17th-century cottage located in Halse, rendered over random rubble with a thatched roof. The roof slopes down to slate at the rear, and there is an external brick chimney stack on the right side and another to the left. The cottage has one and a half storeys with irregular window placements. It features 20th-century two and three-light casement windows with leaded panes, three three-light dormers, and several two-light dormers, except for one three-light window to the left of the central porch. There is a single-storey extension on the left, which has one bay and is independently thatched. At the rear, there is an outshut. Inside, the cottage is reputed to contain stud and panel screens on either side of the cross passage, one of which is partially cut. The interior also features chamfered beams with run-out stops.
