Description

The Congregational Church, built in 1708 and enlarged in 1825, features a rendered exterior and a shallow pitched Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high with three bays and has no windows on the north wall facing Silver Street. The entrance is located at the west end, positioned at a right angle to the road, and includes pointed windows with intersecting leaded tracery, a semi-circular headed doorway with rusticated voussoirs and reveals, and an illegible datestone above. The south side has round-headed sash windows with glazing bars, and the east bay was slightly enlarged around 1900 to accommodate a new organ. The east end showcases two Venetian tracery windows with stained glass dating from 1897.

Inside, there is a wooden gallery at the west end, featuring panels with sunk croisseted mouldings, supported by cast iron columns installed in 1825. The space below this gallery was blocked in 1976. A north wall gallery was added in 1876, with an enriched cast iron baluster. The church has a coved ceiling, pews from 1870, and a mahogany pulpit adorned with inset cast iron panels set against a red velvet background, dating from the late 19th century.
