Description

The former stable buildings, dated 1715, are located about 50 metres north of North Cadbury Court. They are constructed from Cary stone ashlar on a rubble plinth and feature a double Roman clay tile roof with coped gables and a weathervane at the south end. The building is two storeys high and consists of 11 bays, with the outer bays being wider. Notable architectural features include a plinth and a band course, pairs of 2-light windows with plain surrounds, and ground floor windows that have transoms, with small-pane timber casements above and matching cast iron lights below. The fifth and eighth lower bays have moulded arched doorways; the fifth bay has a cambered arch with shields in the spandrils, one of which carries the date 1607, while the eighth bay has an elliptical arch. The lower end bays, which were formerly waggon or coach houses, have been adapted with 20th-century doors and windows. A plaque with a hood mould is present in the north gable, and there is a blocked cambered arched opening in the west wall, which may be part of an earlier building. This wall also overlooks the churchyard and features a group of late 20th-century sculptured figures in bronze resin by John Robinson of Galhampton, depicting themes of sin, death, joy, healing, and resurrection. The interior has not been seen.
