Description
The Old Ring O'Bells Inn, now a house, was originally a monastic dwelling, later serving as a rectory before becoming an inn. It is believed to have medieval origins but was rebuilt in the 17th century, with some external features renewed in the 20th century. The building is roughcast with a double Roman tile roof, coped verges, and three brick ridge stacks. It has two storeys and three bays, featuring 2 and 3-light stone mullioned windows. There is a weathered string course above the right two openings on the ground floor and a small oval opening in a dressed stone surround. The door opening, located between the first and second bays, has a moulded stone surround with a 4-centred head and a stopped label, leading to a reproduction ribbed door. To the left, there is a two-bay outshut that is not of special interest. Adjacent to the building is a coursed and squared lias rubble wall at right angles to the right of the frontage, which has dressed coping. A rusticated ashlar gate pier with moulded capping is located at the roadside. The building is included primarily for its group value with the nearby Church of St. Mary and has some historical interest.
