Description
Meare County Primary School is a school building that also served as vestry rooms and a school house, constructed in 1840 through public subscription. The building features coursed and squared rubble with slate roofs and coped verges, along with brick stacks, two of which are truncated. A central ashlar bellcote rises from the eaves, consisting of two stages; the lower stage has a clock, while the upper stage is gabled and houses a bell. The architectural style is Tudoresque, and the building is two storeys high with a layout of three bays, three bays, and one bay. It has single-light casements with four-centred heads and stopped labels. The central three bays project forward, and the outer two windows on the first floor are large, consisting of three lights with double transoms, and feature stone lintels with emphasized keys. There is a central door opening with a four-centred head, leading to a two-panelled door with a label above it.
