Description
Brooklands is a detached house located on Water Street, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of Ham stone ashlar and features a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof with stepped coped gables and ashlar chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays, with a plinth and continuous strings acting as labels at both levels. The windows are three-light, plain glazed, and set in shallow recesses. Between the first and second bays, there is a wide boarded door with a moulded flat arch, leading to an open stone porch that likely dates from the 19th century. This porch is supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters, topped with a plain entablature and a flat roof. The interior has not been seen.
About 4 meters south of the house, there are wrought iron railings with arrowheads on the top and middle rails, featuring arch-braced standards with cast acanthus-type finials. A 20th-century gate is positioned opposite the door, and there are low return walls made of brick with shallow stone copings, all of which contribute to the setting of the house and the streetscape.
