Description
St George's Hall is a house dating from around 1700, although its front has been significantly altered. It has two storeys plus an attic, with a roughcast exterior and a pantile roof. A band defines the frieze and coping. The building features three windows, including 19th-century oriel windows with tiled roofs on the first floor. The ground floor has 19th-century bays set in splayed recesses, flanked by squinches and decorated with dentilled cornices. The bays contain five-light sash windows, with some glazing bars remaining on the upper floor. A notable feature is the well-crafted wood doorcase from an earlier period, which includes a broken pediment, inset acorn ornament, fluted pilasters, and floriated volutes, along with the original ten-panel door. Inside, there is panelling and plasterwork from around 1700, particularly in the stairwell, although the staircase itself has been relocated to America. The listed buildings from No 25 to No 31 on the north side form an important group with No 2 Church Lane.
