Description

The Town Clerk's Office, located at No 31 on the North Side of High Street, dates back to around 1700 and has undergone significant alterations. This two-storey building features a roughcast exterior and shares a continuous roof and parapet with No 29. The front is distinguished by a plain pilaster separating it from No 29 and another pilaster on the right. There are four windows, which are sash style with keyblocks and stepped lintels, complete with glazing bars. The doorway is adorned with an early 19th-century moulded hood supported by shaped brackets. Inside, there is some panelling that is similar in date to No 29, although the interior has been much altered. To the right, there is a two-storey extension that has a lower elevation. The listed buildings from No 25 to No 31 on the North side form an important group alongside No 2 Church Lane.
