Description
Buckland Lodge is a lodge for Ammerdown Park, built in the early 19th century. It features coursed and squared rubble that is dressed on the front, with a parapet, coped verges, and a slate roof. The building has rendered end stacks and dressed flush quoins, showcasing a Tudor style. It is two storeys high with three bays, including a 19th-century casement window with glazing bars at the center of the first floor, flanked by late 20th-century UPVC casements. The central window and two panelled doors on the ground floor are set within a large semi-circular headed recess, with a coved niche between the doors. There is a moulded sill band for the first floor windows and a moulded band at the first floor level. The parapet rises to a central pediment, with smaller pediments on either side, each topped with a stone medallion featuring initials and a carved crest. Beneath the central pediment is a quatrefoil that contains a heraldic achievement made of coloured tesserae. To the right is a gateway with tall ashlar piers topped with hipped caps, one featuring a small ball finial while the other is missing its finial. The gateway includes wrought iron gates and railings to the left.
