Description
Almshouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in 1672 for Henry Rogers and substantial alterations in 1971. It is constructed of random red sandstone rubble and features a double Roman tile roof. A small square turret with a sundial and a pyramidal lead roof topped with a weather vane and a metal pennant inscribed 'HR 1699' are notable features. The building has coped verges and is arranged in an L-plan with a symmetrical frontage. It is two storeys high with three bays on each side, featuring 2-light casements with glazing bars, and transomed windows on the ground floor. The central door opening has a glazed 20th-century door with sidelights. Above the door is a shallow keyed semi-circular head recess with incised lettering that commemorates the establishment of the almshouse. Inside, some legs of jointed crucks are still visible. The building is included primarily for its historical interest.
