Description
This building is an outbuilding situated at right angles to the frontage of Cannington Court. It is part of what was once marked on the Ordnance Survey map as Friar Cottage and Woodbine Cottage. The outbuilding contains some medieval remains but has been largely rebuilt in the 19th century. It was used as dwellings in the 19th century and is now a store. The structure is made of random red sandstone rubble with large rough-hewn quoins and features a hipped roof covered with single Roman tiles. There are five brick stacks. The irregular two-storey frontage mainly consists of 2-light casements with glazing bars, some of which have pointed arch heads and brick voussoirs. There are six door openings, mostly from the 19th century, but one features a 17th-century studded plank door set in a chamfered and pegged wooden surround. The rear elevation faces Church Lane and includes six 2-stage buttresses with weathered offsets, framing the approach to the Church of St Mary. This outbuilding may be associated with the Priory that once existed on this site.
