Description

The Old Vicarage is a vicarage that has been converted into a dwelling, built around 1860. It is constructed from random rubble chert with quoins and limestone dressings, featuring slate roofs that vary in levels and pitches, coped verges, and decorative ridge tiles. The building has external stone stacks on the east and west gable ends, as well as on the east front and center right of the facade. The plan is irregular, consisting of a parallel range with cross gables.

The entrance front faces north and has one and a half to two and a half storeys, with a layout of three bays. The center gable is fronted with a higher roof level on the right bay. All windows are trefoil-headed wooden casements, except for the center window which has stone architraves. The left gable end features a lancet window, while the center has a three-light casement. The right gable is topped with a two-light window. On the ground floor, there is a lancet window to the left of center, a two-light canted bay window in the center, and a two-light window to the right. The entrance features a pointed arch plank door with decorative hinges, which is accessed by a flight of three steps.

On the left return (east), there are two gabled dormers to the left of the external stack, and one to the right, with the external stack located at the left gable end. The west front and interior have not been seen. This building served as the vicarage for the Church of St Leonard, located about three miles to the northwest. The village of Otterford has largely diminished to just a farm, while Bishopswood became the main settlement in the parish during the 19th century.
