Description
Former Christ Church is an Anglican church built in 1838 by John Pinch the Younger. It is now redundant and used as a store. The church is constructed from Doulting ashlar and features double Roman tile and slate roofs, with coped verges and cruciform finials. At the west end, there is a gabled ashlar bellcote that houses a bell, with a ventilator above the chancel arch. This plain Commissioner's church is designed in a late 13th-century style and has a lofty rectangular nave with a gabled west porch, a short chancel, and a vestry added to the south in 1906.
The nave consists of three bays and has pointed-arch windows with angle shafts, labels, and diamond-paned leaded lights. The porch features a shafted door opening with paired panelled doors. The chancel includes a Geometrical style two-light east window, while the single-storey vestry has a triple-light window on the south side. Inside, the church has a plastered interior with a boarded floor and a central aisle with stone setts. Much of the interior has been stripped, but the gallery, decalogue plaques, and stained glass at the east end remain. The nave is topped with a queen-post roof that features arcading.
