Description

This is a late 18th-century house with alterations from the early 20th century. It is constructed of painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a painted moulded ashlar cornice and a slate roof featuring coped verges. Brick stacks are positioned at the gable ends. The house has a double-pile plan.

The two-storey, three-bay facade features 16-pane sash windows. A flat-roofed, canted bay window with a dentil moulded cornice has been inserted to the left of the central entrance. The main entrance has a six-panel door with a moulded architrave featuring a lozenge and diamond panel design, and is sheltered by a lead-roofed pentice porch supported by console brackets. A long left return displays a sash window with thick glazing bars.

Inside, a stone-flagged central passage runs through the house. The front rooms on either side have been redecorated around 1900 with painted and varnished surfaces to resemble wood – a rare survival. An early 19th-century stick stair is also present.

A boundary wall extends to the west, built of painted brick upon a random rubble base and approximately 2 metres in length. It features chamfered saddle back brick coping with swan neck and ball finials. A gate is not included in the listing.
