Description
The gates, gate piers, and flanking walls to the forecourt of Mells Manor are notable features from the 17th century. The gate piers are constructed from roughly dressed Doulting stone blocks, which are chamfered on their outer edges and topped with moulded caps and tall pyramidal finials. In front of these piers, there is a pair of oak gates designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens around 1910, set within an open latticework. The surrounding rubble wall stands 3 metres high and extends 20 metres to the north and 60 metres to the south. At the southern end of the wall, there is a door opening featuring an oak door with turned decoration, also designed by Lutyens.
