Description

Tray's Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, is a farmhouse that incorporates a former medieval chapel, with elements from the 14th century. The building is constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, with some sections featuring Ham stone ashlar. It has a plain clay tile roof with a simple gable on the house and clay pantiles with simple gables on the outbuilding, along with brick chimney stacks.

The farmhouse is designed in a T-plan and is two storeys high with four bays, plus an extension on the southeast gable. The windows are casements, with two-light windows above and three-light windows below; the lower bay has four blank spaces. All windows feature horizontal glazing bars and timber lintels. In the second bay, there is a 19th-century part-glazed door set in a heavy frame within a plain opening. The extension is set lower and has a clay pantile roof, with small-pane casements at both levels.

The former chapel is located across the north gable of the house and features an offset buttress on the southwest corner that reaches full height, as well as a half-height buttress of triangular plan on the west corner. The southwest gable has two simple windows, one of which is unglazed and has vertical iron bars. On the southeast return, there is a small circular window with curvilinear tracery set high. The northeast gable at the upper level retains the remains of a 14th-century traceried window with a label, which has been converted into a doorway with lower double doors. There is a lean-to extension on the northwest face. The interior has not been seen.
