Description
The Old Vicarage is a detached house that was formerly the vicarage, built in 1841 by Maurice Davis the younger for Henry Bond, and may include earlier fragments. The south front is made of ham stone ashlar, with coursed rubble and ashlar dressings on the sides. It features a hipped Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch, and includes some brick and stone sticks. The building has an 'L' plan and is two storeys high, with a south elevation consisting of four bays, where the two central bays project slightly forward. There is a plinth, a string course between the floors, and an eaves cornice with simple gutter brackets. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in architraves, with the lower ones being deeper. The east gable, also in ashlar, has two bays that match the south facade and features three armorial shields from the former rectory barn, set in square recesses beneath the string course. The entrance doorways are located in the rear wing on both sides, framed by moulded surrounds with flat-arched openings. Each side has a section of ashlar before a break-back, with two bays that match the south facade, followed by a variety of sash and casement windows, indicating that this extension may be of a different, possibly earlier build. The interior has not been seen. The house was constructed for just over £1,670.
