Description
A pair of cottages located at the end of a row, dating from the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of ham stone, cut and squared, with ashlar lintels. The roofs are largely clay pantile, with the west section using double Roman clay tiles. The south-east gable is coped, and a brick chimney stack is present. The cottages are arranged in an ‘L’ shape, with two storeys and five bays, with a single-storey projection in bay 1 and a two-bay, two-storey projection in bay 5. Windows in bays 1 and 2 are 20th-century casements. Windows in bays 3, 4, and the returns to bay 5 are two-light small-pane casements of an earlier pattern. The gable of bay 5 has a 16-pane sash window and an attic gable vent. Below, there is a 20th-century casement in bay 2, a 20-pane sash window to the right of bay 3, a blank bay 4, and a 16-pane sash window in the return. A casement window matching the one above is present in the return, and a 16-pane sash window is in the gable of bay 5. A boarded door with a glazed panel is to the left of bay 3, and a similar door is between the windows in the return of bay 5. There are traces of a blocked doorway in the end gable bay 5. There is a red brick extension from bay 1, using a Flemish bond pattern, with a stone end gable and a double Roman clay tiled roof. The south-east gable of this extension is stepped and coped, and it features a 20th-century garage door under a timber lintel. A 2-light casement window with rectangular-leaded panes of an early pattern is in the north-east return. The interior was not inspected.
