Description
The north boundary wall to the churchyard, with gates to the north and north-east of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, and the war memorial, is likely from the 18th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed from ham stone, with sections of ashlar and coursed rubble. The wall varies in height between 1.5 and 2 metres and features flat, thin copings.
The north gateway, located opposite the north porch from the 18th century, has square ashlar piers that rise about 3 metres high and include plinths, cornice caps, steps, and necks topped with ball finials. The wrought-iron gates are from the 20th century. The north-east gateway is simpler, likely from the 19th century, with square ashlar piers that have bell-hip caps, and the gates are also 20th century to match the north gateway.
Towards the north-west end of the wall, there is a First World War memorial, which is accessed by eight steps and takes the form of a churchyard cross on an octagonal base with three steps.
