Description

Little Thatch is a detached house and shop, likely built in the 18th century. It is constructed of ham stone rubble with a rendered rear wall and features a thatched roof with plain gables on the main wing and a hipped roof on the extension. The building has an 'L' plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, comprising two bays facing the street.

The first bay includes three-light horizontal-bar casements of an early design, featuring iron-framed opening lights in the centre, all under timber lintels on the first floor and attic. Below this is a wider 20th-century display window with toplights, also under a timber lintel. There is a straight joint between the bays. The second bay has a boarded door set in a heavy frame, with an angled shop window below and a two-light casement above in the angled return. The rear wall has 20th-century metal windows.

The south side of the building is plain, and there is a flight of stone steps leading up to the north-east gateway of the Church of SS Peter and Paul nearby. The interior has not been seen. Little Thatch is a picturesque building that holds considerable group value with the Church and the surrounding Square.
