Description
31A East Street is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of rough Ham Hill stone ashlar and features stepped stone copings on a shallow-pitch slate roof, with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, presenting a symmetrical three-window range. There are gauged flat stone arches above 8/8-pane sash windows. Access is via steps leading up to a five-panel door, which has one horizontal panel at the top and a semi-circular overlight made up of four radiating panes. This door is set deep within an archivolt that steps back from the facade and includes reeded imposts. The arch bears worn painted lettering indicating that it was once a county police station. The interior has not been inspected.
