Description

NYNEHEAD CP CHIPLEY PARK ST12SW CHIPLEY PARK 4/63 Walls enclosing garden with south terrace, about 100 m south-west of Chipley Park 25.1.56 GV II Walls enclosing garden with terrace. Probably C17 in origin, C18 brick work, Red brick Flemish bond, flat sandstone coping, random rubble splayed base to terrace, brick parapet. Plan: roughly square with raised terrace on west front where land drops away steeply below, central curved projecting bay. Walls ramped down on west side with central gateway, about 3m high on north side with semi-circular headed doorway in north-east corner, about 2 m high on south side. The bastion-like tile terrace on the west front forms an impressive landscape feature. The tithe map shows the original C17 Chipley Park (now demolished) projecting through the east wall and this area is presumably part of the original C17 garden layout.
