Description

Ansford House is a detached house dating from the later 18th century, potentially built on earlier foundations. The front facade is of Cary stone ashlar with Doulting dressings, standing on an ashlar plinth; the rest of the house is constructed of coursed rubble. It has an asbestos cement slate roof with coped gables and rendered chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has five bays. Large sash windows with 16 panes are set in plain openings, each with a flat, voussoir head. The lower bay to the right has a 6-panelled door within a semi-circular arched doorway, capped by a cast-iron fanlight. The arch is embellished with moulded imposts, an architrave, attached Doric columns supporting a full entablature with triglyphs, metopes, and a pedimented hood. The west gable has later windows, but the basement plinth retains a two-light chamfer-mullioned window lacking a label, and a 18th-century studded boarded door with an iron-barred open fanlight above. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
