Description

No. 4 St Mary Street is a shop building from the early 19th century, likely a refronting of an earlier gable-fronted house. It features painted Flemish bond brick with stone cills and coping on the parapet, and has a pantile roof with a brick stack at the right gable end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a one-window range. The windows, located to the right of centre, have shallow gauged brick cambered arches. The second-floor window is a 6/6-pane sash, while the first floor has a former 8/8-pane tripartite sash, now modified with 20th-century central panes flanked by the original narrow sashes. The 20th-century shop front includes a flush door on the right and a recessed door on the left. The right return features a steep-pitched roof on the rear range. The interior has not been inspected.
