Description

Mayfield House and an attached mill date from the late 18th century, with the mill added in the early 19th century. The house is rendered with end pilasters, a moulded cornice, and a parapet, topped with slate and a coped verge. It has an ashlar ridge stack on the left end. The symmetrical front has two storeys and five bays, featuring narrow six-pane sash windows in plain stone architraves. A central door opening has a bead-moulded stone surround, a mid-19th century six-panelled door, and panelled reveals. A mid-19th century flat-roofed projecting porch features single, segmental-headed openings with emphasised keystones, a moulded cornice, and a parapet. A plain band runs along the first floor. The attached mill is rendered with a double-Roman tile roof and a brick stack to the left. The three-storey mill has five bays and 2-light mullioned windows, each light with a segmental head and a 15-pane casement. A door opening on the right side of the first floor is surrounded by stone with an emphasised keystone, with a plank door. Two ground floor door openings are similarly framed and have plank doors, the one to the left with diagonal plank decoration, and the one to the right having a broad sliding door in four sections.
