Description
The County Hotel is an important early 19th-century building located on East Street. It features a striking three-storey stucco front with a modillion cornice and a parapet. A moulded string course runs above the first floor, and panelled pilasters adorned with suspended anthemion motifs are present on the ground and first floors. The first floor also displays a pane with the letters 'County Hotel'. The façade includes seven sash windows, although some glazing bars are missing.
A large Tuscan porch with an architrave surrounds the central entrance, and there is access to a yard through a rusticated arch to the left, which has double wooden doors. To the left of the main block are two additional houses that are part of the same property, all unified by the stucco finish, cornice, parapet, pilasters, and anthemions. These extensions contain three windows and two windows, along with two large canted bays and a rusticated central doorway on the ground floor.
The County Hotel, along with No 1A Billet Street, No 66 The County Hotel, the Brendon Bar, and No 8 East Street, forms a significant group with other listed buildings in Cheapside, Fore Street, and the Parade.
