Description
The former orangery, located about 30 metres south-west of Cricket House, dates from the early 19th century and is currently used as a parrot house. It is constructed from flat stone ashlar and features a glass and timber hipped roof. The building is single-storey with nine bays, and it has a plinth with Doric pilasters that define each bay, topped with a cornice and a plain parapet. The façade includes large 12-pane casements and sash windows that alternate, and there was originally a matching doorway in the centre bay, which has a raised parapet similar to that of Cricket House. This structure may have been designed by Sir John Soane, but it appears to have undergone alterations. The entrance is now through a low wing added to the north side. The orangery has significant group value with the house.
