Description

This is a house and carriage entrance dating to approximately 1800. The building is divided into two sections. The first section, which comprises number 7, is a three-storey shop, one bay wide, with sash windows set in reveals. The shopfront features a two-light window and a six-panelled door, topped by a moulded cornice supported by a shaped and fluted bracket on the left side. To the right of the shop is a carriage entrance, two bays high, with sash windows and glazing bars. This entrance has a wide, segmental archway containing double wrought-iron gates dating from the mid-19th century. A parapet with moulded coping runs along the left side of the entrance. Shops are located on either side of the archway, at numbers 9 and 11. The building is associated with the Assembly Room located to the rear. The exterior is finished with roughcast rendering, giving the impression of blockwork, and has a slate roof.
