Description

The Court House is a house, likely dating to around 1796. It is located on the south side of St Mary's Street, Axbridge. The building is rendered with corner pilasters and a moulded cornice, topped with a coping and a plain parapet. It has a slate roof and two rendered chimney stacks.

The symmetrical frontage features three bays with sash windows, some containing glazing bars. The window at the centre of the first floor has a semi-circular head and radiating glazing bars. A plain band runs along the first floor. The central door opening contains a recessed six-panelled door and a fanlight with radiating glazed bars, surmounted by an open pediment on pilasters. A two-storey wing adjoins the main house on the left, featuring a six-panelled door and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. To the right of the frontage, at a right angle, is a gateway with a pair of ornamental wrought and cast iron gates.

The interior retains features contemporary with the construction of the building.
