Description
The Colston Obelisk, located in Great Breach Wood, is a memorial commemorating a shooting accident that occurred in 1852. It is made of polished marble and stands on a squared rubble plinth. The obelisk features a classic design with a tapering shaft. The base of the monument is inscribed with the words: "Here Fell Mortally Wounded By The Accidental Discharge Of A Gun Whilst Shooting With Some Friends October 30th, 1852, Hungerford Colston."
