Description
The Crosse family monument is a chest tomb located about 1 metre south of the nave of the Church of St Mary and All Saints. The earliest inscription on the tomb dates back to 1653, commemorating Andrew Crosse, with additional later inscriptions. The monument is made of dressed stone and features an oblong chest set on a deeply moulded plinth. It has pilasters adorned with naive caryatids and an entablature that includes a frieze decorated with paterae and grotesque masks. The slab top is moulded around the outer edge. Shallow segmental-headed niches are present on the north and south sides between the pilasters, and a cartouche is located on the east end.
