Description

This is a pair of cottages dating from the late 19th century, located on the north side of High Street in West Coker. They were built using local stone rubble with dressings of Ham stone and have Welsh slate roofs with stepped coped gables. A large brick chimney stack dominates the centre. The cottages are designed in a well-executed Gothic style.

The roadside elevation has two storeys and three bays. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned with flat heads and decorative stone labels; the lights are pointed arched with trefoil cusping and are leaded with coloured margins. Number 98 has a two-light window on each level. Number 100 has two lower two-light windows on the ground floor and a three-light window above, set within a large coped gable. Matching windows are found on the returns. The doorways are boarded and set within flat arched surrounds with Gothic traceried fanlights. The interiors have not been inspected.
