Description

The Cottage is a 19th-century cottage located in West Coker, set at a right angle to the road. It is constructed of local stone rubble with dressings in Ham stone, and has clay pantiles between stepped coped gables, with brick chimney stacks at the ends. The two-storey, three-bay west elevation features small-pane wooden casement windows with exposed timber casement frames below. Most of the windows are two-lights, although the upper outer bays have three-lights. A central boarded door is set in a plain ashlar surround with a heavy lintel. The interior appears largely unchanged, retaining contemporary fireplaces, a staircase, boarded doors, and partitions. It is reputed to have previously been used as a sailcloth store.
