Description
This structure consists of a bridge, gatepiers, railings, and gates located about 10 meters northeast of Spring Grove House. The bridge dates from the late 18th century and was renewed in the 20th century. It features a single arch span made of red brick, which has been renewed with red sandstone random rubble masonry, and is topped with courses of brickwork and stone saddleback coping.
The gatepiers at the southern end of the bridge are likely from the early 19th century and are made of painted ashlar. They are square with recessed panels and topped with 20th-century shallow baluster urns. There are no gates present. The railings on the bridge slope down at the northern end past the gatepiers and are made of wrought iron, probably from the late 18th century. The design includes spearheads with volutes, standards, and four-sided gatepiers shaped like quartered circles with a rosette center and alternating scroll panels, also topped with volutes, standing about 2 meters high. The double gate, which also slopes down in the center, features a spearhead design with a frieze of linked circles, showcasing fine wrought iron work.
