Description
This is a barn located about 30 meters west of Slough Farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century. It has been altered and extended, with changes made to the openings at the south gable end in the 20th century. The barn is said to be timber framed over a low stone wall, with the south gable end constructed of random rubble and dressed limestone quoins, along with limestone blocks in the lower courses and a stone plinth. The north gable end wall is made of cob, and the roof facing Slough Farmhouse is thatched, hipped to the north, with double Roman tiled additions and mostly corrugated asbestos sheeting at the rear.
The barn features seven bays and includes a full-height hipped porch with weather-boarded returns, two pairs of double doors, and an adjoining mounting block. Lean-to outbuildings made of lias random rubble flank the porch, with sliding doors inserted in the right end bay. The rear elevation is thought to have originally had a similar porch but now has continuous shelter sheds. The interior has not been seen, but it is said to contain a post and truss roof with one sling braced truss, which has mostly been repaired and altered.
