Description

Stapleton Croft is a detached cottage dating to the 17th century. It is constructed of roughly cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, and has a thatched roof with stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and has three bays. The ground floor features mullioned windows; the window to the first bay is a 3-light hollow chamfered design with a label; the second bay has a 2-light hollow chamfered window with unworked top mitres and no label; and the third bay has a 3-light ovolo moulded window without a label. Above are earlier 2-light casement windows with rectangular leaded glass. An oval window is located between the upper bays 2 and 3. To the right of the first bay is a chamfered cambered arched doorway with a studded boarded door. There are two further 2-light mullioned windows in the south gable, and a lean-to extension to the rear. While the interior has been extensively re-arranged, a report suggests original features may remain.
