Description
Falconer's Cottages are a pair of cottages with origins dating back to the 17th century. They are constructed from cut and squared ham stone and feature a double Roman clay tile roof with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of four bays. The windows are hollow-chamfered and set in plain recesses without labels; all are four-light except for the upper window in bay three, which is three-light. Between bays one and two, as well as in lower bay three, there are moulded four-centre arched doorways with boarded doors. The north gable has a blocked oval attic window, and there is a two-storey extension with a garage on the south gable. The rear has later extensions and windows. Although the interior was not seen, the front gardens are enclosed by an ashlar wall that averages 1.25 metres high, featuring a plinth and thin angled coping, with corner piers that sweep up to the house in the end returns. There are also gate piers with two steps leading up opposite bay three, all of which contribute to the setting of the cottages.
