Description
The bandstand in Vivary Park is an attractive late 19th-century structure located in the southern part of the park. It is octagonal and painted white, featuring a rusticated stone base supported by eight cast iron columns with crocket capitals. These columns hold up an octagonal boarded canopy that is topped with a pyramidal lead roof, which rises in two stages to a pinnacle adorned with a gilt ball. Both the main and subsidiary canopies are decorated with wrought-iron scrolled cresting and corner pinnacles. The upper canopy includes pierced grilles, while the main canopy is supported by pierced scrolled brackets. The columns display a delicate leaf motif, and the platform is surrounded by an openwork balustrade with curved tops. The bandstand is part of a group of listed buildings in Vivary Park and Mount Street, which includes the School, Unitarian Chapel, the Lawn, and Mary Street House in Mary Street, as well as Wilton House in Hammets Walk and Nos 1 to 14 (consecutive) Upper High Street.
