Description

The Booking Office, platform, and railings, located on the east side of Station Road in Dunster, were built in 1871. The booking office is constructed of squared, uncoursed red sandstone with Bath stone dressings. It features a chamfered plinth, quoins, a plain clay tiled roof, decorative ridge tiles, coped verges, and an external stack on the left gable end, with a rebuilt cap and a similar 20th-century stack to the left of center. The building is single storey and includes a booking office and waiting room.

On the track side, there are two-light casements flanking half-glazed double doors on the left, and two similar doors on the right, all with rusticated surrounds. A four-bay lead-roofed canopy with a dog tooth wooden pelmet and timber-clad returns is supported by raking brackets. To the left, there is a flat-roofed, one-bay single storey block. An original gas lamp holder is located on the right return.

The forecourt elevation features a steeply pitched, gabled porch with deep eaves supported by curved brackets, shouldered surrounds to diagonally boarded double doors, and similar shouldered surrounds to paired windows flanking the door, with a side light beyond. The raised platform, made of squared and coursed lias and covered with tarmac, extends about 150 meters in length and is returned on either side of the booking office. Behind it are spearhead cast iron railings and gates. The West Somerset Railway line was extended from Watchet to Minehead in 1874.
