Description
Nos 15 and 17 on Marsh Street are 16th century buildings with later alterations. They are constructed of rendered rubble sandstone and cob, topped with thatched roofs. The buildings feature gables and have tall square brick chimneys at the front, with a similar stack at the rear made of brick and stone. Both buildings are two storeys high and have four wooden mullioned casement windows that break the eaves line, along with later windows set in earlier frames. There is a square-headed door opening with a plain door, and double wooden doors to the left. No 17 has a pantile roof, a wooden casement window, and a plain door, while No 15 has a corrugated metal roof. The interior retains a good example of a three-roomed house with a cross passage, following the traditional West Somerset arrangement. Notably, there are two contemporary 16th century lateral fireplaces, which is unusual. The interior also features plain chamfered ceiling beams and cruck frame roof trusses.
